What to do After a Failed Spore Test

October 26, 2017Sporetesting BlogBy Nikki Wolf

If you have ever had a spore test fail and continue to use the failed autoclave, you have options. One such option is running a sterilization cycle with a ProChem SSW Integrator.

ProChem SSW Steam Sterilization Integrator is a single-use Class 5 Integrating Indicator which complies with ANSI/AAMI/ISO 11140-1:2005 and ANSI/AAMI ST60:1996. It integrates three essential criteria for proper steam sterilization: time, temperature, and steam. When processed along with a load it indicates, with a margin of safety, whether the proper steam sterilization criteria have been achieved.

If you received notice of a failed spore test and are still using the autoclave:

  1. Place 1 ProChem SSW Integrator in each sterilization cycle.
  2. After the sterilization cycle is complete, verify the ink has reached the ACCEPT window.
  3. If the dark bar does not reach the ACCEPT window, reprocessing is required.

To check your autoclave daily between regular weekly spore tests:

  1. Place 1 ProChem SSW Integrator in the first sterilization cycle of the day.
  2. After the sterilization cycle is complete, verify the link has reached the ACCEPT window.
  3. If the dark bar does not reach the ACCEPT window, reprocessing is required.
